"Jack Skellington" COSTUME (mutilated vintage tuxedo, $$$ in plaster)

This is Jack Skellington from Nightmare before Christmas. My initial concept involved using drywallers stilts and making myself proportionally accurate. But since I was hosting a party it didn't make sense walking though my apartment at 8 feet tall.

I found a vintage tuxedo on Ebay and modified it by adding pinstripes. I also found some inexpensive pointed toe boots.

My original plan was to make a full head cast of my plasticine sculpt. This way the final would have a back and fit over my head like a helmet.
My several attempts at casting the head in a flexible rubber were unsuccessful. Each material I tried was too flimsy. I ended up using a 2-part plastic resin that was not flexible enough to demold. I have to destroy the plaster wilth a hammer to get at the casting. Thankfully it looked great.

A sculpy bats head bowtie.
In the end, the 2 part casting did not quite fit correctly. It's very difficult to size something for your own head! I decided to use just the front half and mount it to a stick, like a masquerade mask. It allowed me to more easily get into character for photos.
